Korean International School was founded in 1960. It was originally a Saturday school to help a few students in need in the Korean community. It has expanded to support its community and has students from more than 25 countries. It is an international school that offers two streams, Korean Section an International Section. Students can pick which stream to attend in the school.

In the Korean stream, the subject would be taught in Korean. Most students can join the international stream if they do not know Korean.

International stream:

  •  Follow British education of National Curriculum in England
  •  All the class materials would be teaching in English
  •  Foreign language to learn: Chinese, Korean, Spanish

In the Chinese curriculum, it uses Mandarin. Teachers are familiar with traditional and simplified Chinese.

Korean International School also welcomes students with learning difficulties. The school has a program named Springboard program for specifically teaching students with learning difficulties. There would be three classes in total, around 10 students per class. They allow teachers to provide support for students. Students would learn in special need classroom for most of their time, as for the remaining time they would be learning in a mainstream class with support. There would be teaching assistants around to provide additional support to students with learning difficulties. The school wants students to feel safe and comfortable in their learning environment. This learning experience would help shape independence and let them know they can manage and trying to adapt to new environment as mainstream.

In the Springboard Primary program, there are three levels:

  •  Primary (age 6-11)
  •  Secondary (age 12-16)
  •  Newly program for age 16-19

Besides, students get to learn valuable skills in the Springboard program, life skills, for example, cooking, that help students to learn, adapt to the daily real-life situation, and to enhance their skills for future employment.

In the mainstream program, students get to learn and experience more courses. They get to learn about travel, and work in projects related to tourism, for example, they get to create a brochure to convince people to travel to different locations. Students get to learn skills and creative thinking.

Another special course in Korean International School is to let students learn out of the classroom. In geography course for some education levels, students would get to go hiking and get examples. Students learn independently, care for nature, and survival skills. A school that encourages students to learn with passion, look for future, and to feel encouraged to take action to help the student achieve their goals.

Overall, Korean International School is a unique school that helps prepare students, especially students with learning difficulties. The school has great support that teaches students valuable skills and to let them use their knowledge in the real world.
